An exciting opportunity is available for a Small Animal Veterinary Ophthalmologist to join a purpose-built, RCVS-accredited referral hospital in Essex.
The hospital is actively seeking an experienced Certificate Holder, Advanced Practitioner, or Specialist in Ophthalmology to lead and develop the ophthalmology caseload within a well-established, multidisciplinary team.
This modern referral centre is home to a stable clinical team of over 40, including 18 veterinarians with expertise across advanced orthopaedics, internal medicine, ECC, surgery, imaging, cardiology, exotics, and more. While the primary focus of this role is ophthalmology, the position offers ample opportunity to pursue additional clinical interests or mentoring responsibilities, supported by a highly collaborative and respectful team culture.
The hospital provides access to state-of-the-art equipment, including a CT scanner, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy suite, slit lamp, operating loupes, and CryoPen. The practice also offers 24-hour on-site hospitalisation, ensuring continuity of care and high clinical standards.
The employer offers a competitive salary of £70,000-£80,000 per annum for a full-time role commensurate with experience and the skills brought to the team. Part-time hours can also be accommodated. A flexible rota is available and designed around individual lifestyle needs and commitments outside of work.
The hospital has a large, loyal client base and receives a varied referral caseload, providing consistent exposure to both advanced and emergency cases. Workload and CPD opportunities are tailored to suit each clinician’s interests and level of experience, with strong support for ongoing professional development.
This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated ophthalmologist looking to take on a leadership role within a supportive, advanced clinical setting.
The employer is willing to assist with a work permit for suitably qualified overseas applicants.
The practice is located just a 60-minute direct train journey to London and a 45-minute drive from Stansted Airport, making travel to Europe during downtime easy.
