An opportunity has become available for a large animal vet to join a very well-respected practice in a picturesque part of Victoria.
While experience is preferred, recent graduates with some experience in mixed or dairy practice are welcome to apply. The current team have experience mentoring and training more junior staff members in dairy medicine. This is an opportunity to join a supportive team of very experienced cattle vets with special interests in lameness, nutrition, mastitis and bovine surgery.
Vets work out of a large, purpose-built large animal facility with equine and small ruminant hospital facilities. Large animal vets are provided with a 4WD. Each vehicle has a purpose-built pod equipped with everything you will need. There is also an ultrasound, a cattle lameness trailer and heifer teat seal trailers.
The practice has a separate team of equine veterinarians. As such, the successful applicant can choose to do the occasional equine call or none at all. The practice also sees some beef cattle and small ruminants.
For those looking to undertake some small animal work, there is scope for this to be a mixed practice role, if desired.
There is also a dedicated small animal hospital on site. This is fully equipped to the highest standard and staffed with a team of small animal veterinarians and nurses.
The clinic strives to provide a learning and teaching environment. Within their community, they schedule continuing education evenings and formal CPD. They also regularly host veterinary students from various Australian universities.
Vets enjoy a generous base salary plus payment for after-hours. A full time veterinarian works a four-day week. All staff enjoy five weeks of annual leave, one week of study leave, and a $3000 annual continuing education allowance. The practice has recently introduced a paid parental leave program.
This established practice is located in the South Gippsland area, under 2.5 hours from Melbourne. The region offers access to stunning beaches for surfing and fishing, as well as national parks for camping and bushwalking. The successful applicant could choose to live beachside or live in town and enjoy everything it has to offer.
