A well-regarded, state-of-the-art hospital in inner Melbourne is seeking an experienced vet to step into a permanent full-time veterinary director role within its general practice team. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines clinical work with team development, mentoring and operational oversight.

Day to day, you’ll lead and mentor a team of vets and nurses, manage hospitalised patients, perform routine surgery and support the team with more complex cases and clinical decisions as needed. You’ll also oversee rotas, workflow and patient flow, and keep an eye on budgets and performance to make sure things run well. One day per week is set aside for planning, mentoring and teaching, giving you dedicated time to invest in your team without the demands of clinical work.

The hospital is a recently renovated, modern facility offering emergency care, surgery, diagnostics, dentistry, and inpatient and outpatient services. It is exceptionally well equipped, with CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, digital radiology, ECG, tonopen IOP, cryopen, doppler, advanced monitoring tools, an in-house laboratory, and separate ICU wards for dogs and cats. Fear-free principles are central to the hospital’s design and philosophy, and the team is committed to delivering high-quality care to all members of the community. If you’re looking for a role where your work genuinely means something, this is a compelling place to be.

The successful candidate will enjoy a strong package of benefits, including CPD support, onsite parking, access to free EAP sessions, grief counselling support, generous discounts on veterinary treatment, pet insurance and retail products, and pet-friendly workplace policies.

The employer is willing to assist with a work visa (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

Located in one of Melbourne’s most liveable inner-city suburbs, you’ll have the best of city life right on your doorstep. The CBD is minutes away, but you’re equally well placed to enjoy leafy streets, local parks, a thriving café scene, excellent restaurants, live music and some of Melbourne’s best cultural precincts. It’s a wonderful place to build your career and enjoy a genuinely great quality of life outside of work.
