A permanent, full-time position has become available for a qualified vet nurse at a progressive and expanding mixed practice in Western Australia.

This is a very exciting and rare opportunity to be involved in the transformation of the hospital under fresh, experienced and energetic new ownership!

The overall practice caseload is currently 80% small animal, 20% equine and cattle, with a scattering of alpacas, sheep and the occasional pet pig. The advertised position is 100% small animal.

The clinic is well-equipped, including digital x-ray, full in-house lab, ultrasound (for small and large animals), endoscope, IM3 dental suite and practice vehicles equipped for large animal work.

The team pride themselves on fostering a supportive, inclusive environment. They are dedicated to providing exceptional medical and surgical care for animals and support for their families. They offer a comprehensive range of hospital and ambulatory veterinary services, and their focus is on providing quality, evidence-based care.

The vet nurse caseload will involve:

– Surgical and anaesthesia nursing – patient preparation, induction, intra-operative monitoring and recovery

– Dental nursing – prophylactic scaling and polishing, dental charting and dental radiography using the IM3 suite

– Hospitalised patient care – fluid therapy management, IV catheter placement and maintenance, medication administration and clinical monitoring

– Diagnostic imaging support – digital radiographic positioning and ultrasound assistance

– In-house pathology – haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis, cytology and microscopy

– Consultation support, client education and reception/admission/discharge duties

The employer is seeking a vet nurse with a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent recognised qualification in Australia, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience. Eligibility for registration as a vet nurse in Western Australia is required.

The ideal applicant will be confident, capable and genuinely passionate about patient care, with strong communication skills and the ability to explain things clearly to clients. The role requires:

– Confident IV catheter placement and anaesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery across a range of patient sizes and ASA classes

– Proficiency in dental scaling, polishing, charting and dental radiography

– Competence in in-house laboratory diagnostics (haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis, cytology)

The employer is looking for someone who works well as part of a team and brings positive energy to the workplace. Further training and support will be available, with experienced vet nurses and surgeons on hand to provide guidance and help you settle into your role.

Salary is offered at $38 to $41 per hour + superannuation, commensurate with experience (i.e., $76,515 to $81,016 per annum, plus superannuation). Minimum of 38 hours per week (full-time, permanent position).

New graduates and part-time opportunities may also be considered for further potential vacancies: hours and salary by agreement.

The practice is located within a well-positioned regional town with easy access to beaches, wineries and national forests.
