Imagine stepping out for a lunchtime stroll to the beach, soaking up the sunshine before heading back to work. If you’re craving a change of scenery, beautiful weather, and the chance to work with a great team, this opportunity is not to be missed!

A brand-new, purpose-built clinic on Queensland’s stunning coastline is seeking a veterinarian to join its established clinic. This modern practice offers an outstanding working environment in an enviable coastal location.

Experienced veterinarians can earn up to $160,000 plus superannuation, along with a $500 discount distribution allowance and after-hours bonuses.

The clinic is committed to supporting a genuine work-life balance. Benefits include 10 days of paid personal leave, five weeks of paid annual leave, and one week of paid study leave, plus $1,500 per year for continuing education.

For those with families, the convenience of an on-site creche makes balancing professional and family commitments even easier.

The role offers flexible working hours and is available on either a full-time or part-time basis, with shared after-hours.

The employer is happy to assist with work permits (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

The team is seeking a caring, passionate, and professional small animal veterinarian who values collaboration and high-quality care. You’ll be supported with plenty of on-site training, guidance, and mentorship, alongside a team of highly skilled and capable nurses. Nurses assist in all aspects of patient care, including nurse consults, writing up vet notes, handling initial after-hours calls, and supporting triage and procedures.

The purpose-built clinic is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, including ultrasound, digital x-ray, in-house blood testing, and full anaesthetic monitoring with ETCO2, ECG, and NIBP. Facilities include two dedicated surgical suites, a dental theatre with dental x-ray, separate dog waiting areas, multiple consult rooms, wards, an ICU, and an isolation ward, ensuring you have everything you need to deliver exceptional veterinary care.

This independently owned practice is located in the heart of coastal Queensland, just a short distance from the Great Barrier Reef, offering the perfect balance of a rewarding veterinary career and an enviable coastal lifestyle.

Vetlink has received the following feedback from a locum vet who worked at this practice:

I came to the practice for a locum stint and found a practice and veterinary team that I wanted to stay with forever. The team is cohesive and efficient. The qualified nurses, trainees, receptionists and support staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Standard operating procedures are well rehearsed, and I feel this aids in the smooth running of the hospital.

The caseload is about as varied as you could wish for, with plenty of ‘higher-end’ work if desired. In my experience, all the clients have been respectful and grateful. Weekend work is shared and provides an interesting emergency caseload varying from medical to trauma.

The hospital is modern, aesthetically pleasing, structurally well designed, spotlessly clean and really well equipped; nothing held together with Elastoplast! There’s all the regular diagnostic kit you’d expect, plus a heap of extras. Every detail has been paid attention to in terms of equipment and consumables.

There’s a staffed creche, a designated lunch room and also quiet areas for phone calls and reading up. I cannot speak highly enough of this practice, and in fact, as I’m writing this blurb, I’m wondering if I should just bite the bullet and move up here!

The town is really welcoming. The air is warm and clear all year round. The locals stop and talk to you. The town is serviced by more restaurants than you could eat at if you ate out every night for a month (trust me, I tried!). There are a couple of shopping malls with a Woolies in one and a Coles in the other, a cinema, a Big W, plenty of clothes shops and a beautiful marina with regular ferries to and from the nearby Island.

The town also has a good mix of drinking establishments and cafes and a vibrant social scene; there are local workshops catering for everything from beginner choral singing to natural skincare making, young fishing enthusiasts, skateboarders and equestrians. There’s also a busy arts scene with local artists displaying their work within galleries in the town, and for music lovers, there are multiple venues throughout the week showcasing live music. The seafront has good infrastructure, with all the seating, eating, play and entertainment areas you would expect of an Aussie coastal town.

Locally, there is a real community feel, with many upcoming events listed in the local free paper. To name a few, there’s a regular ‘produce swap’ market, park run, trivia, and community gardening meet-up. If I were to describe the area, I’d say it’s a coastal town with a low-key, laid-back vibe and burgeoning growth of affluent workers and some younger retirees. It’s a town as yet untouched by tourism but well set up in terms of infrastructure to deal with a big increase in population density.
