SALARY: Commensurate with experience

JOB NO: 221,832SB2

Are you a passionate veterinarian looking for a rewarding role in a friendly, supportive environment where your lifestyle and clinical interests are valued?

This is a fantastic opportunity for a veterinarian to join a thriving small animal and exotics practice located on Queensland’s beautiful coastline.

The role offers excellent flexibility, with both full-time (four days per week) and part-time hours available to suit your schedule.

While a minimum of three years of experience is preferred, the practice is happy to consider vets with less experience who demonstrate confidence and a willingness to grow.

You will be joining a small, close-knit team that currently includes one full-time vet and one part-time vet. With plans to expand the team by one or two more veterinarians, it is a great time to come on board and contribute to a practice that is growing and evolving.

The clinic sees a predominantly small animal caseload, with up to 5% exotics. The exotics caseload is primarily birds, along with the occasional guinea pig or turtle.

While orthopaedic procedures such as De Angelis, cruciate repairs, and minor patella surgeries are performed at the practice, there is no requirement to do orthopaedic surgeries. However, if you have a special interest in this area, the clinic is open to investing in additional equipment and supporting your continued professional development.

The practice is also in the process of installing a CT scanner and is happy to provide continuing education support for candidates with an interest in diagnostic imaging.

You will enjoy a varied and manageable workload, with standard shifts running from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. These hours are highly flexible, and a school-friendly roster can be accommodated. The clinic also opens on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, with full-time vets ideally working every second Saturday.

On-call responsibilities are minimal. Thanks to a shared arrangement with other local clinics, you will only be required to be on call for one weekend day every seven weeks. During the week, the clinic uses an external triage service to filter after-hours calls, which means interruptions are rare. Typically, vets are on call for one night per week.

This is a well-equipped, modern clinic that supports high-quality care. It features a dedicated surgical theatre, two anaesthetic machines, digital x-ray, a full dental suite, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory equipment capable of running CBC, biochemistry, urinalysis, faecal analysis, and progesterone testing. The practice is currently installing a CT scanner, offering even more diagnostic capability on-site.

With a supportive team that includes four full-time nurses and three part-time receptionists and a focus on staff wellbeing and patient experience, the practice is also working towards becoming an accredited Fear Free practice.

Remuneration will be tailored to suit your experience and expectations. Whether you are seeking a sea change or looking for a supportive environment to build your skills, this role offers the freedom to shape a career that fits your lifestyle.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

Living and working on the Queensland coast provides an enviable work-life balance. Located just three and a half hours north of Brisbane, the area is famous for its stunning coastline, relaxed atmosphere, and access to nature. You can enjoy opportunities for whale watching, water sports, bushwalking, and much more. With affordable living, friendly communities, and a great mix of town and country, it is a wonderful place to call home.
