Surgery Focused Vet Job in New Zealand - 223,117SB2

LOCATION: Canterbury Region, New Zealand

TYPE OF WORK: 100% Companion Animal

HOURS: Part Time

AFTER HOURS: None

SALARY: Competitive - Commensurate with experience

JOB NO: 223,117SB2

An opportunity is available for an experienced companion animal veterinarian with a strong surgical interest for a part-time position in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand.

This role would be ideal for a vet with at least three years of experience who has, or is working towards, ANZCVS Membership or a similar surgical qualification.

The practice offers a substantial surgical caseload involving both working dogs and family pets. Procedures currently performed include TPLO surgery, pancarpal arthrodesis, tarsal arthrodesis and fracture repairs, providing excellent scope for a veterinarian who wants to continue developing their orthopaedic skills.

The wider companion animal caseload includes a high volume of non-routine and emergency presentations. An interest in emergency medicine would therefore be valuable, along with confident decision-making skills and the ability to manage more involved clinical cases.

The successful applicant will join a supportive and collaborative team where CPD and further clinical development are encouraged. The practice is equipped with digital X-ray, endoscopy, fluoroscopy and extensive orthopaedic equipment, including an Orthomed locking plating kit, an MMP tibial tuberosity advancement kit and RidgeStop patella luxation repair equipment. An interest in future practice ownership would also be welcomed.

There is no after-hours requirement. The successful applicant will participate in a rolling weekend roster, working Saturday from 8:30 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. After completing a rostered weekend, team members receive a delayed weekend the following week, providing a four-day break. There is also flexibility to split this time across Monday and Friday.

The practice is located on the South Island of New Zealand. The area offers easy access to the Southern Alps and a wide range of outdoor activities. Fishing, boating, tramping, climbing and skiing are all within reach.
