Ready for your next veterinary adventure in one of New Zealand’s most scenic and community-focused rural regions?
An experienced mixed animal veterinarian is required to join a well-established practice in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand’s South Island.
This is a full-time, permanent position suited to a vet with at least three years of experience who enjoys a genuinely varied workload. A flexible start date is available.
The successful applicant will become part of the Canterbury veterinary team, working alongside three full-time vets in a purpose-built clinic with a loyal client base and strong connections to the local community. The practice also collaborates closely with another regional team, providing opportunities for collegial support, knowledge sharing and teamwork across the wider area.
The companion animal caseload includes a mix of medical and surgical cases. Emergency companion animal cases outside clinic hours are referred to a dedicated after-hours clinic in Christchurch, allowing the local team to focus on scheduled patient care during regular clinic hours.
Production animal work includes dairy, sheep and beef cases, along with some equine work. The successful applicant will participate in the production animal after-hours roster and will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of rural veterinary cases.
Clinic hours are Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. The purpose-built facility is equipped with IDEXX diagnostics, ultrasound, X-ray with an automatic processor, an endoscope and a laparoscope, supporting a wide variety of medical and surgical work.
The Canterbury Region offers a relaxed rural lifestyle within easy reach of Christchurch. The region is known for its open countryside, welcoming communities and access to outdoor activities including hiking, fishing and kayaking. It is an appealing location for those seeking the space and community feel of regional living while remaining connected to a major city.
