JOB NO: 222,820SB2

A well-established small animal clinic is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join a friendly, inclusive and well-supported practice in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales (very close to Canberra).

This role would suit a vet who enjoys practising medicine to a high standard, working with a collaborative team and taking the next step into practice leadership.

The practice employs a large team of eight vets, with usually four to five vets rostered each day. You will also have access to a wide network of vets with special interests across areas such as diagnostic imaging, surgery, behaviour, dentistry, medicine, dermatology and exotics. The team has regular social and continuing education catch-ups, and there is a strong focus on collegiality, professional development, and skill development among vets, nurses and reception staff.

The nursing team is skilled, dedicated and well-utilised, while the reception team is efficient and focused on client satisfaction. Two reception team members are also trained in patient nutrition choices and plans, allowing vets to hand nutrition instructions across with confidence.

The practice owners are local vets who work in their hospitals most days of the week and are committed to supporting a healthy work-life balance. There are no after-hours services, with local emergency centres available overnight and on weekends, and a specialist centre nearby. The practice is open on Saturday mornings, but the rest of the weekend is free. On the usual full-time roster, vets also have a regular weekday off. Management is flexible, so vets with specific availability are encouraged to discuss what may work.

The weekly schedule includes a surgical shift focused on surgical patients and potentially dentals, a hospital shift focused on hospitalised patients or medical procedures and potentially dentals, and two consulting days. Consulting days include a three-hour midday break for food, tea and coffee, follow-ups, notes, pathology reporting, client phone calls and other catch-up time.

This position has a strong leadership focus and would suit an experienced veterinarian who is interested in working alongside the practice owners. The successful applicant may already have leadership or management experience, or be keen to develop these skills.

For the right person, there may also be potential opportunities for practice partnership. The development of this role would be supported by in-house training and suitable external continuing education.

For vets with an interest in broader community work, there may also be an opportunity to become involved in the practice’s animal health programmes in Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

The practice is very well equipped, with in-house DR radiography, dental radiography, a great ultrasound machine, an in-house sonographer and tonometry among its useful clinical tools.

The wider Canberra region offers a fantastic lifestyle, with plenty of culture, beautiful outdoor spaces and easy access to activities such as cycling, hiking, running, walking, swimming and picnics. The area is family-friendly, with excellent schools and plenty to do outside of work. With the Snowy Mountains, South Coast and Sydney all within reach, it is a great base for vets looking for career growth, strong clinical support and a balanced lifestyle.
