An opportunity has become available for an experienced vet to fill a permanent position in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island.
This role would suit a vet who is looking to settle into a long-term position in a friendly rural coastal community, while enjoying the support of a small, dedicated team. You will be joining a highly experienced two-vet team, becoming the third vet at the practice.
The practice sees a 50% companion animal, 50% large animal caseload. The employer is ideally seeking a 100% companion animal vet who can look after the small animal clinic, although a mixed vet would also be considered. A vet with an interest in surgery, including basic orthopaedics where possible, would be highly regarded.
The clinic is brand new, purpose-built and well equipped, with modern facilities, ample space and convenient parking. The team is described as supportive and friendly, with strong local roots and a genuine focus on building trusted relationships with clients, patients and the wider community. The clinic provides care for both pets and farm animals, while this role will focus on the companion animal side of the practice.
The after-hours roster includes two nights on call, with weekends shared on a 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 basis. A beautiful, fully furnished three-bedroom house close to the clinic may be available as part of the salary package.
The practice is located in a stunning coastal town known for its mountain and ocean scenery, marine wildlife and relaxed rural lifestyle. It is one of New Zealand’s leading eco-tourism destinations, with whale watching, seals, dolphins, coastal walks and outdoor activities all part of everyday life. Christchurch is approximately three hours away, giving you access to city amenities while still enjoying the benefits of a close-knit coastal community.
