A lovely small animal clinic in Melbourne’s northwest suburbs is on the lookout for a vet to join their growing team. Independently owned and family-run, the practice has built a great reputation for both its quality of care and the positive, respectful culture it fosters among staff.
The team includes 3.5 FTE vets and six experienced vet nurses, all of whom work together closely to support one another and provide the best possible care to their patients. Everyone’s ideas are welcomed, and there’s a real emphasis on kindness, teamwork, and great communication, both within the clinic and with clients.
The clinic has recently moved into a brand-new, purpose-built veterinary hospital, designed with both patients and team members in mind. It is fully equipped with modern technology, including digital DR radiography, IDEXX ProCyte haematology analyser, Catalyst One chemistry analyser, IM3 dental unit with dental x-rays, Tonopen, ultrasound, patient warming systems, and advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment. The hospital also features a dedicated surgical suite with two heated surgical tables, intraoperative monitoring (SpO2, temperature, ECG, NIBP), and multiple purpose-built consulting rooms designed for comfort.
Full-time vets at the clinic typically work four days a week, with one in two Saturdays and a regular RDO. The clinic hours are 8:30 am to 7:00 pm weekdays and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturdays, with no after-hours or Sundays.
This role would be perfect for a confident all-rounder with 3+ years of experience, who is passionate about delivering high-quality medical and surgical care. You will need excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues, and a veterinary degree registrable in Victoria. There is also an opportunity to develop a special interest area if desired.
The clinic has a varied caseload, including experience in preparing animals for international travel, offering an interesting and rewarding mix of work. While the clinic currently focuses on soft-tissue surgery, there is also potential to introduce orthopaedics if that is an area of interest.
The practice offers a supportive, friendly and cohesive team culture, with a strong focus on collaboration, case support and ongoing learning. Continuing education is encouraged, and the clinic provides an environment where you can genuinely enjoy coming to work.
Located in a vibrant and family-friendly part of Melbourne, the clinic is close to schools, shops and parks, with easy access to the CBD via major freeways. If you’re looking for a genuinely supportive team and a role where you’ll be valued and encouraged to grow, this position could be a great fit.
The employer is willing to assist with a work visa (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.
Feedback from a recent employee:
I worked at this practice for nearly three years as a recent graduate before relocating interstate. It was a fantastic clinic to be part of, and leaving was a very difficult decision.
The team environment is genuinely collaborative and supportive. The vets work together to help one another out. If a consult runs long, one of the practice owners will often step in and take on a couple of extra consults so you don’t fall behind. Likewise, if you’re caught up in a procedure, someone will scrub in to takeover so you can still take your lunch break. I always had a full, uninterrupted one-hour lunch break, which made a big difference to my day.
Time is built into the schedule for client follow-up, histories and note-taking, so I never had to stay late after my shift. Standard consults are 20 minutes, which allows for quality care without feeling rushed. In terms of work-life balance, it’s the best clinic I’ve worked at.
As a recent graduate, I received excellent support as I built my confidence with new surgeries and procedures. The vets are highly experienced, knowledgeable and generous with their time, and the nursing team is made up of skilled, senior staff who are always willing to help.
I’d absolutely work at this clinic again if I were looking for a GP role in Melbourne.
