A rare opportunity not to be missed! A practice in New Zealand’s Southland Region is seeking an experienced equine veterinarian with a keen interest in equine surgery.

The work is varied, with no two days the same and the successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in all aspects of the practice.

The applicant would split surgical duties with pre-purchase examinations, lameness work ups and other specialised procedures/examinations as well as ambulatory work. The caseload is approximately 40% standardbred racehorses, 5% thoroughbred racehorses and the remaining 55% sport and pleasure horses.

The employer welcomes applicants with a desire to learn and further develop their equine surgical skills or with a speciality in equine surgery.

The clinic is situated on 1.5 Ha of land. The practice operates out of a recently developed barn with 7 boxes, along with adjacent paddocking. There are 3 separate day boxes and two treatment rooms, with stocks in addition to the surgical suite.

The salary offered is $110,000+ per annum, depending on experience. CPD is actively encouraged and the employer also makes a contribution to wellbeing activities (some people have bought ski passes with their portion, others join the gym or do a photography course!).

You will be working full-time hours with a sensible after-hours roster in place.

A relocation allowance is provided, veterinary registration paid and staff discounts applied for companion animals. A work vehicle, laptop and phone are provided, plus six weeks of accommodation provided on arrival (if relocating). Plus, there is plenty of ‘food for good,’ when on the go – fruit, nibbles, and snacks to keep you going!

This practice offers full imaging equipment both in-house and at stable, with cutting-edge medicine surgical offerings for all horses from racing and sport horse elite athletes to pleasure horses.

The area is rich in wildlife, art and history, with plenty of character and a warm and friendly atmosphere. There is an excellent range of shops, lively bars and restaurants.

Vetlink is a free service for job seekers.
