JOB NO: 222,581LH2

An equine ambulatory and racetrack veterinarian is required to join a large, privately owned equine practice supporting a busy racing and general equine population.

You’ll be part of an experienced ambulatory and racetrack team providing veterinary services to thoroughbred, standardbred and sport horse stables, as well as pleasure horses and ponies throughout the surrounding district.

The position combines racetrack responsibilities with a broad range of ambulatory general practice work.

The caseload is varied and includes racing stable work alongside general equine duties such as lameness assessments, dentistry, wound management, reproductive work including ultrasound scanning, field colic assessments and routine equine veterinary care. Due to the size of the practice and the depth of experience within the team, ambulatory veterinarians are well supported at all times, with access to multiple senior clinicians and specialist input when required.

Three specialist surgeons are available for consultation and referral support, and the wider team includes a structured internship program that contributes to a collaborative and teaching-focused environment.

The practice operates from a well-equipped equine hospital offering comprehensive referral and diagnostic services. Facilities include full surgical capabilities, advanced imaging, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, scintigraphy and standing MRI, with stabling available for hospitalised cases.

Remuneration is dependent on experience, with packages starting from $110,000 and including base salary, superannuation and estimated after-hours commissions. A vehicle and phone are provided for business and reasonable personal use. Additional benefits include Australian Veterinary Association membership, an annual continuing education allowance of $2,000, and encouragement and support to pursue certificate or membership qualifications. Visa assistance and relocation support are available, including a relocation allowance of $1,500.

After-hours and weekend responsibilities are shared evenly across the ambulatory team, with a typical roster of one weekend in four. Duties include general ambulatory services and attendance at both thoroughbred and harness race meetings as the official veterinarian.

The employer is willing to assist with a work visa (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

This role is based in a thriving regional centre known for its strong racing industry, rich history and vibrant community.
