An experienced Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian is sought to join a busy veterinary hospital in Rangiora, on the outskirts of Christchurch in New Zealand’s South Island.
The practice is NZVA BESTPRACTICE accredited and holds Hospital Standards accreditation, along with ISFM Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic status.
This is a great role for a vet who enjoys emergency medicine, hospital care and working in a collaborative, high-performing environment. The position focuses on emergency and hospital cases, with support from general practice veterinarians, nurses and support staff to help deliver excellent patient care and client service.
This is a 24/7 first-opinion and referral practice with a long-established reputation, with patients referred from across the South Island. The hospital operates from a purpose-built facility with three custom-designed theatres, including one dedicated to orthopaedics, as well as a full in-house lab, ultrasound, digital DR X-ray, endoscopy and a Canon 128-slice CT scanner. There is also a VTS anaesthesia technician and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation team on-site, giving strong support for complex and interesting cases.
The role offers an average 30-hour working week, with weekend shifts required as part of the ECC roster. You will be working alongside a supportive, collegial and fun team that values excellence, empathy, respect, teamwork, community and innovation.
Benefits include competitive remuneration reflective of experience, generous paid CPD leave and allowance, a $500 annual wellbeing allowance pro rata, and genuine support for work-life balance. Visa support, VCNZ registration assistance and tailored relocation support are also available. The successful applicant will also be enrolled in the Lincoln Leading Edge Program, offering a qualification in veterinary non-clinical skills.
To be considered, applicants should hold a BVSc or equivalent qualification, be eligible for registration to practise in New Zealand, and have at least two years of clinical experience. This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, shows sound clinical judgement, and values teamwork, communication and continuous improvement.
