JOB NO: 222,786SB2

Join a well-established mixed practice in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island.

The practice is seeking an experienced mixed animal veterinarian with a strong focus on dairy work and solid companion animal skills.

This is a full-time permanent role offering 40 hours per week, plus rostered Saturdays and an on-call rotation. It would suit a motivated generalist vet with at least three years of mixed practice experience who enjoys building strong relationships with dairy clients while also delivering a high standard of care to companion animal patients.

This is a varied role with a strong production animal focus, including herd health work, fertility management, disease prevention and value-adding support for dairy clients. You’ll also be involved in companion animal consulting and surgery, with the chance to mentor junior team members and help grow the small animal side of the business.

The practice is looking for someone who enjoys clinical variety, communicates well with both farming clients and pet owners, and brings a collaborative, team-first approach to their work.

You’ll be joining a proactive and welcoming team that values professional growth, shared knowledge and supportive leadership. There is a strong nursing, technician and support team in place, and the role offers the chance to learn from experienced industry professionals while continuing to develop your own skills. The on-call roster is structured with work-life balance in mind, with weekends on call generally 1 in 5 weeks or less, plus 1 weeknight.

The role comes with a range of benefits, including competitive remuneration, a 3% KiwiSaver contribution, generous after-hours compensation, an employee assistance programme through Vitae, a wellbeing programme, and an annual flu vaccination. This is a great opportunity for a vet who wants to make a meaningful contribution to both farm and companion animal clients while continuing to grow in a supportive mixed practice environment.

The location offers an appealing mix of rural community, outdoor lifestyle and easy access to larger centres. Located in the Canterbury region on New Zealand’s South Island, it sits south of Christchurch and offers access to fishing, boating, alpine areas and weekend adventures around the Southern Alps. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys working closely with the farming community while still having city amenities within easy reach.
