A five-vet (3.5 FTE) small animal practice in a beautiful coastal area of South Australia invites applications from new/recent graduates and experienced vets.
This is a full-time role to start in early 2021. The start date is flexible. Couples and friends are welcome to apply, as there are potentially two roles available.
The successful applicant will join the current team of five vets (full-time and part-time) and nine nurses. This small but dynamic team make sure they take care of each other and laugh a lot. They offer a very supportive environment for new graduates and will assist you in developing into a well-rounded small animal veterinarian.
This is a busy practice that sees a wide variety of medical and surgical cases. The caseload includes dogs, cats, rabbits, wildlife, birds and some reptiles. The vets perform a broad range of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. There is the option to refer complicated cases to specialists in Adelaide.
Equipment at the practice includes digital radiography, ultrasound, Idexx LaserCyte & Catalyst, microscope and a new dental unit.
The after-hours roster is 1:3 and is very flexible, allowing you to enjoy weekend sporting activities and weekends away. At 10 pm each night, the phones are diverted to an emergency centre, enabling the team to get a good night's sleep. Although the thought of after-hours can seem daunting to start with, it is a great chance to gain experience with emergency and critical care cases. The practice owners will not put a new graduate on the after-hours roster until they have some experience. Excellent back-up and support will be provided when on call.
Outback work:
Two vets from the practice travel to outback towns to run clinics there every two to three months. The opportunity will arise for you to be part of the team, doing rewarding remote vet work and surgery.
Work conditions:
- Generous remuneration with bonuses (usually $2000 to $3,000 pa) plus superan.
- Five weeks of annual leave
- Extra annual leave of up to 3 weeks extra can be taken on a pro-rata basis
- 38 hour week with RDO (Every third Sat to be worked)
- Relocation assistance
- An advance on salary of $1000 is available upon signing of the contract
About you:
To be the right fit for the role, a positive attitude is a must! You will have fantastic communication skills, show empathy and care about what clients have to say. Applicants must have enthusiasm for their great profession.
Overseas veterinarians are welcome to apply. Sponsorship (work permit) will be considered.
