Are you looking for a role where you will be not just a number, but part of a close-knit team made up of positive, supportive and inclusive vets and nurses?

This is an opportunity to become the third vet at this practice.

The practice owner enjoys teaching and is willing to support and mentor a new graduate during their first year in practice.

There is scope for the practice to employ two new graduates. Friends and couples are welcome to apply.

On offer is the opportunity to further your skills and knowledge in your areas of special interest. The practice owner encourages continuing education and offers financial support for further studies. Current team members have special interests in cytology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, reproduction and soft-tissue surgery.

They see a wide variety of cases and do a lot of treatments in-house due to limited referral options nearby. The successful applicant can choose to work in a small animal role or mixed. There is scope to build the large animal case load if desired. At the moment the practice sees approximately 5% large animals.

The clinic is busy and has a loyal clientele.

The successful applicant will work a four or five day week with a share in after-hours and a rotating weekend roster.

The practice is currently open 8 am – 11 am, Saturday mornings and is closed on Sundays. Vets enjoy an additional day off the week following a weekend worked. There is no after hours.

The practice is located in a regional town, less than half an hour from beaches of Hervey Bay and all it has to offer. Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach are also easily reached. It is only a short trip to the natural wonder of Fraser Island.

Like many regional areas, this town is undergoing significant growth. As such, rental properties are scarce. However, the practice owner has a house available free of charge for the successful applicant.

19/10/2021 Comments from a 2017 graduate who started at the practice as a new graduate:

I am just finishing my fourth year at the practice. It has been a great first job. The small animal clinic is very busy. We do everything from routine surgeries and dentals to orthopaedics, emergency surgery and BOAS surgery. The boss is always happy to teach. As such, I have gained a lot of experience in advanced surgeries. He is always keen to learn himself, and continuing education is encouraged. He really spends a lot of time with the new graduates training them up. I have had the opportunity to see a lot while here. I also do a few large animal calls. We have some horse, cattle, sheep and goat clients. I get to do a lot of the cattle and small ruminant calls. The clinic is in a quiet little town. Everyone here is very friendly. The town has everything that you could need. There is a larger town with a bigger CBD not far away. I started after hours once I had some experience and felt ready. There was always someone I could call for backup, whether that was another vet or a nurse to assist me. I am only leaving the practice as my partner has work in a different location.
