Are you a mixed animal veterinarian looking to work at a well-established and highly regarded practice?
Join a supportive and passionate team of 6 vets on the South Island! This is a highly skilled and experienced team who are ready to welcome a new addition to their clinic.
The large animal work is biased towards dairy. Sheep and beef work are still a significant component, with some occasional horse work. The practices also see companion animals, some pig, and deer work. The employer is flexible with the desired mix of work for the successful candidate.
New/recent graduates and experienced vets are welcome to apply.
The clinic hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. The roster will likely include one late night per week, with vets sharing a roster for emergency hours and weekend work.
The employer will provide a continued education allowance as well as a paid NZVA membership and income protection insurance.
Discounted accommodation is available if needed.
All equipment for large animal work, including wet weather apparel and a car are provided for work purposes. The practice operates out of two purpose-built clinics, both equipped to high standards.
The area is rich in wildlife, art and history, with plenty of character and a warm and friendly atmosphere. There is an excellent range of shops, lively bars and restaurants in a nearby town centre.
Feedback from a former employee who was with the practice for 3 years:
‘This is a true mixed practice based just outside of Southland. Southland is the gateway to the beautiful Sounds region, Stewart Island, and has easy access to Queenstown and Dunedin. It’s based in a more quiet city, with access to everything you need minus the tourists. The practice has a heavier focus on dairy & companion animals, then sheep/beef, and equine. There is support from experienced vets available and also plenty of opportunity to grow and learn new skills independently if interested. The nursing team and support staff are lovely. I’ve been based at one of their clinics for the past 3 years, and we’re like a little family. There are limited options for referral in the area, so you’ll get to follow through on a wide variety of cases.’
