Comments from an experienced vet who has been at the clinic for 3 years:

‘This practice is a good stepping stone into the UK. The location is midway up the country close to the coast, allowing for easy weekend road trips to both the North and South regions of England. It’s super convenient to get to London (or Cambridge) by train.

I also found the area very convenient for trips to Europe. It was very easy to enjoy a long weekend in France or Spain or Italy!

The clinic itself has a very knowledgeable team of nurses who are indispensable for triages and emergencies, but also can do routine x-rays, straightforward stitch-ups, lump removals, and management of wounds.

The vet team is friendly and has a culture of sharing difficult cases, bouncing ideas off each other, and being very approachable in general. The caseload is varied, with lots of interesting surgical and medical cases coming through the door, probably about 95% dogs and cats, 5% pocket pets.

Consults are 15 min long with 30 min for more difficult cases and skin cases. I don’t believe this is typical for clinics in the UK.

When working full time there are two half days a week (one 3.30pm finish and one 1pm finish). Having a Friday off in lieu after working a Saturday morning has been my favourite aspect of the schedule, especially with the above weekend travel options!’
