Are you looking to take the next step in your career? Seeking varied GP work with the option to focus on your area of interest? Would you like structured time to mentor others? How about protected breaks along with scheduled admin time? Work at an Independent vet-owned practice with scope for clinical or business progression!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a vet to join a practice in Wales.

The role will see the successful vet work alongside the senior vet team and two directors to provide mentorship, leadership and practical support to new graduates. Current vets have interests in exotics, feline medicine, surgery and diagnostic imaging. Over 90% of the veterinary team have been with the practice since graduating (or returned after working elsewhere!). Multiple vets are working towards a variety of certificates. There is also an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery in the team, performing referral-level surgery and mentoring those with interests.

The employer places focus on enhancing job satisfaction for all team members by enabling the time for vets to explore their particular interests at work whilst being flexible with hours and working patterns. The practice is always looking at ways to improve and they value input to the running of the practice, with team-led change facilitated with regular meetings.

The practice is VetGDP approved and offer an excellent environment for young vets wanting to gain experience and exposure to cases with the benefit of backup. Applicants should be confident with emergency medicine and surgery and have completed (or be in the process of completing) their VetGDP training.

An example of a typical full time rota is below, however, the practice is open to flexible options. Part-time applicants are welcome to apply.

- Four-day work week (eight-hour shifts)

- 1:4 weekend mornings providing care to hospital inpatients

- 1:4 as 2nd on-call OOH (There is an RVN and SVN on-site 24/7, plus a 1st on-call vet who attends all OOH emergencies and inpatient requirements. Backup vets are expected to be within 30 minutes of the practice to attend if necessary to assist the 1st on-call vet with complex cases outside of their remit. Otherwise, support is provided from home over the phone).

Day shifts consist of 8 am to 5 pm consults, 9 am to 6 pm consults and 10 am to 7 pm consults - inpatients and operating. There is scope to have some bias to particular shifts, depending on strengths and preferences.

The purpose-built practice is well-equipped with separate waiting and hospitalisation for cats, dogs and exotics, DR x-ray, doppler ultrasound with multiple probes, dental suite with dental radiography, comprehensive in-house lab including Sedivue and various scopes.

Vets receive 33 days of holiday with the opportunity to purchase an extra five days. For CPD, vets receive five days and a budget of £1500 plus RCVS, VDS and one other paid membership.

The practice is situated between Swansea and Cardiff, with excellent links to the M4, allowing for easy access to the city. It is also within close proximity to the sea for those who enjoy water sports and the like. There is endless parking on-site at the practice.
