The friendly team at a three-vet practice in coastal Queensland requires a veterinarian to join them on a permanent basis.
Both experienced vets and new graduates are welcome to apply.
Reasons why you will love working at this practice:
– Highly leveraged support staff
– 4-day work week – 9 am to 6 pm, plus Friday off as well after a weekend on-call
– Morning tea from 11 to 11:30 am every day
– Small town community (they will know your order at the coffee shop, you will be greeted by name in the butcher, etc.)
– Non-corporate (no out-of-touch upper management)
– True mixed practice and variety
– Beautiful beaches and rainforest on your doorstep
This is a mixed practice with 70 to 80% small animal work and 20 to 30% large animal work (cattle and equine). The equine work is all pleasure horse. The cattle work is mainly beef cattle. There is the opportunity to undertake pregnancy and semen testing.
This is a full-time position, but at this practice, full-time means only 32 hours per week. Vets routinely work a four-day week. There will be a requirement to participate in the weekend and after-hours roster. This is approximately 1 in 4 nights on call.
Wages start from $50 per hour for a new graduate, increasing with experience. The salary is negotiable for an experienced vet. Short-term accommodation may be available.
The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.
The practice is spacious and very well equipped with a video endoscope, blood analysers, ultrasound, gastroscope, digital x-ray, dental machine for small animals as well as large animal ultrasound (both cattle and horses) and power float for horses, pulse oximeter, Apalert and capnograph.
Nurses at the practice are very well-trained and are involved in ensuring the workflow throughout the day. Nurses routinely place catheters and take bloods, allowing vets to get on with their consultations and focus on medicine and surgery.
The practice is located close to beautiful beaches (ten minutes to the coast), national parks and the Whitsunday Islands. It is also close to the airport and is just a 1.5-hour flight to Brisbane.
Finally, to help you weigh it up, here are some words from the current vet associate at the practice:
Reasons why I love working here:
– I can be myself (very important for me)
– Very accepting and bonding team, love the smokos at 11 am daily – a chance to catch up with the team either related to veterinary stuff or just general chats
– Nurses and reception staff are highly skilled, reliable and accountable
– Strong communication as a team
– Very well-scheduled days with flowing consults but also a strong work team to assist with workups
– Lovely clientele
The most important for me is a team of bosses and staff that are accepting of my situation with vetting, and are happy to accommodate me. This has allowed me to continue vetting whilst reducing the risk of burnout and leaving the profession completely. I am so appreciative of this.
