Are you looking to work at a Best Practice Accredited clinic?

A companion animal vet is required at a practice in the Southland region of New Zealand.

As this is a mixed practice, the successful applicant will be required to take part in the large animal after-hours call. However, this is a 100% companion animal role during the day.

This is a great opportunity to join a supportive team of 8 veterinarians.

The clinic hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. The roster will include a late night on Thursdays with veterinarians rostered for emergency after hours and weekend work.

The practice sees a mix of companion animals, dairy, beef and sheep, along with some pig, horse and deer work.

All equipment for large animal work, including wet weather apparel and a car, are provided for work purposes. The practice operates out of two purpose-built clinics. Both are equipped to high standards.

Feedback from a current employee who has been with the practice for 3 years:

‘This is a true mixed practice based just outside of Southland. Southland is the gateway to the beautiful Sounds region, Stewart Island, and has easy access to Queenstown and Dunedin. It’s based in a more quiet city, with access to everything you need minus the tourists. The practice has a heavier focus on dairy & companion animals, then sheep/beef, and equine. There is support from experienced vets available, but also plenty of opportunity to grow and learn new skills independently if interested. The nursing team and support staff are lovely. I’ve been based at one of their clinics for the past 3 years, and we’re like a little family. Overall, the practice is fairly relaxed and with limited options for referral, you’ll get to follow through on a wide variety of cases.’

The area is rich in wildlife, art and history, with plenty of character and a warm and friendly atmosphere. There is an excellent range of shops, lively bars and restaurants in a nearby town centre.
