A practice in Scotland is seeking an experienced mixed vet to join their fun and friendly team. Working here, you will have the best of both worlds being based in the beautiful rural Scottish Borders but within an hour's drive from the city of Edinburgh.
The position is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave with the potential to become a permanent position. You will be joining a vet team with a great balance of experience and youth. Vets at the practice enjoy clinical freedom to follow cases up and have a brilliant team of small animal vets for support and case discussion.
The practice is based in a great livestock farming area. The majority of the farm work is with progressive, keen suckler beef and sheep farmers. These range from large commercial herds and flocks to smaller pedigree farmers and also a few large dairies. The team enjoys a range of farm work from routine work, health planning, fertility testing, etc. to every day clinical cases and emergencies.
The small animal work includes surgery and consults, with access to modern diagnostic equipment, including dental x-ray and good quality ultrasound, with a move to new shiny premises this year to accommodate our growing caseload. The practice aims to provide a great first-opinion service.
Most of the vets work a 4.5-day week, but there could be potential for flexibility with this and also with the species split preference of the individual. The on-call work will involve an equal share of farm-only on-call, usually 1 in 7/8 but moving to 1 in 4 with 2 vets on-call through the spring. Time off in lieu is given for weekends on call.
The salary on offer is up to £57,500 p.a., dependent upon experience, and the total package would include a vehicle, a generous CPD allowance and other benefits listed below.
Benefits:
- Staff dogs welcome
- Generous CPD allowance
- 30 days holiday (pro rata)
- Competitive staff discount rates on products (cost price) and services (50%)
- Life assurance (after qualifying period)
- Enhanced Sickness scheme (after qualifying period)
- Enhanced maternity/paternity scheme
- Opportunity to buy/sell holidays
- Health Shield Cash Plan
- Further qualifications, including certificates, encouraged and supported
- Workplace Pension
- Opportunity to apply for the Bike2Work scheme
- Opportunity for career progression within a large and growing practice
The practice is located in a coastal town with sandy beaches, and beautiful riverside walks. The town is a beautiful and exciting border-land melting pot, which gives the area such an impressive depth of character.
