Are you a small animal vet with excellent general practice skills looking to further your career?

This is an exciting opportunity for a vet looking to move up into a leadership role. Here, you can be part of a large, thriving regional clinic with an experienced team.

The hospital has a busy and varied caseload – mainly companion animals with some pocket pets, wildlife and birds.

As lead vet, you will work closely with the clinic coordinator in the day-to-day running of the clinic. You will be a member of the management team responsible for the professional management of all clinical operations. Clinical operations include managing, training and supervising veterinary associates, graduates and nursing staff, as well as being hands-on in the delivery of veterinary services to patients and clients according to the practice’s high standards of care.

This position would suit a small animal veterinarian with at least five years of experience in a companion animal clinic. If you have an interest in improving your orthopaedic surgical skills, guidance under the tuition of an experienced vet is on offer.

The role is full time with a four-day work week. There are no weekend after-hours required and only 1 in 8 weeknights on call.

You will be surrounded by a strong support team of 4 small animal vets, 4.5 equine vets, 14 nurses and 2 receptionists working across the main hospital and smaller branch clinic. The main hospital is a large purpose-built clinic with all the expected modern equipment, including DR radiography, in-house laboratory, im3 dental gear and x-ray, endoscopes, ultrasound and orthopaedic equipment.

Vets at the practice have special interests in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, avian medicine, alternate therapies and rehab therapy. They receive referrals in these fields from surrounding clinics. They cover most work in clinic but also have the option of referral to Perth if required.

The ideal candidate will want to work in a hands-on clinic to get in and hone their skills. You will be able to focus on furthering your vet career by taking the initiative to learn from the experienced team, the practice’s opportunities for development and the large, varied caseload. To succeed in this leadership role, you will be interested in and excited about managing a team of veterinary professionals.

The employer is offering a competitive salary package plus a phone and laptop. Relocation assistance will be provided if required.

Additional benefits include:

– Membership and VSB Registration paid

– 5 days paid volunteer leave

– Wellness Day – An extra paid annual leave day

– Paid parental leave in addition to the government scheme

– Access to an online resource library

– Genuine paid support for CE

– Plus, various retail, travel, and service discounts

The practice can provide you with considerable opportunities for training, personal development and career progression.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

The hospital is located in WA’s South West in a vibrant regional centre with excellent medical, retail, entertainment, sports, and educational facilities. It is located 2 hours south of Perth and offers easy access to referral and capital city services, as well as beautiful beaches and nearby wineries and tourism centres.
