Reliability and a strong work ethic are essential qualities, as is a caring and compassionate nature. The candidate should be open to learning new things and possess excellent communication skills and a polished presentation.
The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.
Feedback from a Nottingham 2020 graduate currently working at the practice:
I really enjoy working here. The clinic is small and you get to know your team as friends. The facilities are really good and we can work cases up well.
I am allowed clinical freedom to work up my own cases. We are given thirty-minute consult times (fifteen-minute vaccinations and rechecks) allowing us to work cases up well. The other vets are supportive of each other. We all have our own areas of interest which complement each other, and we can discuss cases when we need to. The nursing staff are really lovely. Vets get their own desk, phone and computer at work.
I really love living in the area. The beaches are lovely, and there is a lot to explore. We work four days a week, which is really good. I enjoy coming to work. I would recommend the practice to other vets.
Feedback from a Pretoria 2020 graduate who worked as a locum at the practice in 2024:
The practice is great. The team are great, and they are committed to supporting other staff members. The nursing staff are well-trained. It was easy to step into the role. Management was accommodating and checked in to see how I was doing.
The practice is well-equipped. The clientele was great. They really respected the vet’s opinion. There was always another vet around for support. Consults were 30 minutes (15 minutes for vaccinations), allowing time to work up cases.
It is a really nice practice. The other vets are knowledgeable and have a good mix of interests. The head vet is a really good surgeon. It is a good place to learn.
The area is beautiful. The people are neighbourly, and I enjoyed swimming at the beach. If you are outdoorsy, it is a great location. I would recommend the practice to other vets.
