Are you dreaming of a beachside lifestyle in the country?
An opportunity has become available for a veterinarian to join a 5 vet practice in Coastal Western Australia.
The practice is seeking to employ an experienced mixed animal vet (experience with horses an advantage as race meet vetting will be required). Applicants should have the willingness to do both small animal surgery and medicine. However, a consulting-only role will be considered. Orthopaedic skills would also be an advantage.
Ideally, they would like to employ someone with 2 or more years’ experience but will consider less experience for the right candidate with the right attitude (with wages offered reflecting this). Minimum 12-month contract with potential to extend to a permanent position.
The position can be full or part-time. A full time role would involve a 4 day working week with flexi days available after being on call. Part-time hours will also be considered.
The practice is equipped with lots of toys (too many to mention), and if they don’t have it, it is probably on their list to get! They have an equine gastroscope, equine dental equipment and crush, small animal endoscope, digital radiography for both large and small animals, IM3 dental x-rays, fully equipped surgery with orthopaedic capabilities and designated dog and cat consulting rooms. They also have a fantastic team of nurses who are able to make any vets life easier.
The salary is negotiable, based on experience. They also provide after-hours remuneration in addition to salary, meal and on call allowances, productively incentive bonuses, additional bonuses eligible once employed for over 12 months, 4 weeks annual leave + 1 week study/CPD leave. CPD is not capped so allows for a large range for courses or conferences to be discussed.
As the practice is located in a rural setting, they are able to work up cases, but referral to Perth is also an option. They enjoy an extremely varied caseload, so there is no chance of getting bored. As the only clinic offering after-hours emergency care in the area, their vets are able to develop emergency and critical care skills while still being a GP clinic.
The practice is located in a medium-sized regional coastal town with amazing schools, cafes, and sporting facilities. The town is suited to most lifestyles, with country living and beachside loves all catered for.
Above is the owner’s wish list, but everything is negotiable, and they are happy to discuss it with any prospective vets in a completely confidential manner.
If you are looking for a sea change to a practice where the owners care about work-life balance and are happy to negotiate a working position that suits everyone’s goals, please contact Dr Kira Procter for more information
Feedback from a Murdoch 2020 graduate currently working at the practice:
The practice offers a great working environment. The employers are understanding and flexible and value work-life balance. The staff all get on really well and help each other when needed. We are encouraged to take our study leave each year.
I have lived in the area for the past four years, and the location of the practice is great. It is very relaxed, and you can go to the beach often.
I would recommend the practice to other vets.
