A clinic in beautiful North West Tasmania is excited to have a new graduate position available at their rapidly expanding mixed practice.
They are currently a three-vet practice with a great team of enthusiastic, dedicated and fun-loving nurses. They are wanting to expand to four vets to meet their expanding/increasing demand.
The practice owners are passionate about getting newly graduated vets off to a good start in their career. They provide exceptional support and mentoring.
This is a family-owned practice, and the close-knit, supportive team reflects those values. The employers encourage teamwork and learning. The workload is currently 70% small animal and 30% large animal with a focus on dairy. Clinic hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with no weekend clinic.
The practice is well-equipped with equipment, including in-house lab (Vet Scan biochemistry, Abaxis haematology, digital slide scanner and pathology), BCF Mindray6 ultrasound, orthopaedics kit with cordless Milwaukee drill, digital x-ray (plus x-ray table with built-in plate), IM3 dental machine and x-ray, multiple anaesthetic machines, and all the usual monitoring equipment. The small animal caseload is extremely varied. You will get to work up cases that would be referred in the city. For those trickier surgery cases, there is a surgeon who visits the practice.
Farm clients are progressive and friendly – people who will still give you a cup of coffee and the occasional meal. Farms range from large seasonal dairy herds to hobby blocks. The caseload includes calvings, general emergencies, pregnancy testing, reproductive work, lameness and disease and mastitis investigations, etc. They have 2 BCF ultrasounds (Easi-scan linear and Easi-scan curve) with BUG goggles and wireless screen for preg testing, plus fully equipped vehicles.
Package:
– Salary depending on experience.
– Four-day week for full-time vet.
– Fully equipped car with personal use for full-time vets.
– On-call shared equally between all vets. On-call retainer with generous bonus scheme.
– 4 weeks of annual leave and 1 week of paid study leave.
– Access to online continuous education courses.

The clinic is located in a small township close to a larger regional centre. Tasmania is a great place to live and raise a family. There is a large choice of primary and secondary schools, both private and public. Melbourne is a one-hour flight away, and the nearest airport is only 15 minutes from the clinic. It is within easy reach of rainforest, Cradle Mountain and the rugged West Coast; the temperate climate is perfect for bushwalking, fishing, biking and other outdoor activities. The best of country living with all the amenities of a small city on your doorstep.
