A small animal hospital in WA's beautiful South West is seeking a veterinarian to join their team.

As there is a need to replace both a departing senior colleague and to provide for an expanding workload, working couples are encouraged to apply, and hours can be negotiable for a second vet within the structure.

The hospital has a busy and varied caseload - mainly companion animals with some pocket pets, wildlife and birds.

The hospital is large and well-established in the region, with a modern purpose-built hospital and a nearby satellite branch. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including IDEXX and Abaxis lab suite, DR radiography and new radiology suite, im3 dental equipment and dental radiography, electrocautery, de Soutter orthopedic equipment, rigid endoscopes and modern ultrasound.

A friendly team of experienced nurses and reception staff support the vets. Among the team, they have special interests and experience in surgery (soft tissue and orthopaedic), alternate therapies and acupuncture, avian medicine and rehab therapy.

Compensation includes a generous salary, very negotiable with experience, plus a share of after-hours income performed, superannuation, AVA membership, telephone provided, and vet surgeons board fees paid.

Continuing education is encouraged, and the practice will pay for or subsidise conference attendance, distance education courses or membership examinations.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

They provide an after-hours service Monday to Friday night which is shared with another local practice and works out to be a 1 in 10-12 rota most of the time. After the Saturday morning clinic, weekend and public holiday emergencies are referred to an emergency centre. They have also recently introduced a paygate to access their after-hours service, which has reduced a lot of unnecessary disturbance of vets on call.

The hospital is located in WA's South West in a vibrant regional centre with excellent medical, retail, entertainment, sports, and educational facilities. It is located 2 hours south of Perth and offers easy access to referral and capital city services, as well as beautiful beaches and nearby wineries and tourism centres.
