A veterinarian is required to join the team at a busy, privately-owned practice in country New South Wales.

Both new graduates and experienced vets are welcome to apply. There are multiple positions available at this practice, so friends/couples are encouraged to apply.

The caseload is 99% small animals with the occasional goat or sheep.

The successful applicant will be working alongside a 10-vet, 15-nurse/client relations team. This is a particularly supportive environment where everyone aims to share their knowledge and expertise, and there is always someone to bounce ideas off when working up more complicated cases.

Experience levels of vets at the practice range from 1 year up to 30 years, with many experienced vets available for support and mentorship.

The nursing team is fantastic, and the overwhelming majority of the staff have been at the practice for many years and are quick to embrace any new addition to the team.

Continuing education is highly encouraged and generously supported financially, including study leave and course costs. Conditions are accommodating and negotiable, depending on what you can bring to the practice.

This is a full-time role to work four days per week, plus 1:6 weekends. Vets at the practice enjoy a long weekend after every weekend worked. There are no after-hours required.

The clinic is open between 8 am and 7 pm Monday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 11 am on Sunday.

The hospital has been awarded the ASAVA Hospital Of Excellence Accreditation. The hospital is purpose-built and fully equipped in order to practice a very high standard of medicine and surgery.

The equipment list includes:

- Digital Radiography

- My Lab Ultrasonography

- Storz Video Endoscopy and video otoscope

- Smartflow patient management systems that allow us to practice paperless record keeping with digital touch screen whiteboards, iPad controlled treatment records and anaesthetic logs.

- Heska & Vepa complete in-house laboratory, including coagulation testing, blood gases.

- Anaesthetic machines equipped with DigiCare and Cardell patient monitoring systems, with Capnography, continuous BP and ECG capabilities

- Artificial ventilation machines

- IM3 Dental unit, CR7 dental radiography, Vet-Tome Atraumatic extraction system.

- Significant caseload of orthopaedic procedures with an array of orthopaedic instrumentation, including TTA, MMP, SOP Plating systems and Ridgestop patella prosthetics.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) and relocation allowance for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

The practice is situated close to the Hunter Valley wine region and the coast, only a 2-hour drive from Sydney. There are lots of indoor and outdoor activities for you to enjoy in your free time.

The team have a variety of interests and will be sure to get you hooked into something fun, whether it’s mountain biking or road riding, trail walking, horse riding golf or even just brunch! There are many great café options for your morning coffee, and there is always someone keen for dinner after work.

Feedback from a 2013 graduate who works at the practice:

I started at the practice seven years ago after one year out, and the support was a game-changer for me. It was a breath of fresh air. The senior vets and practice owners were always available at any time during the day or night (however, we no longer do after hours). There is so much variety in the cases we see. The practice has the capacity to do most things in-house, both surgically and being able to work up medical cases fairly comprehensively. The practice is very well-equipped, and there are also specialist hospitals not far away as well as specialists who are happy to chat to us over the phone whenever we need. The clients are great and generally happy to go with what we suggest.

If you have an interest in surgery, there are definitely plenty of opportunities to learn and develop your skills in both soft tissue and orthopaedics. If a vet hasn't done a particular procedure before or wants to learn something, they will get them to scrub in until they feel comfortable doing something on their own. Even now, as an experienced vet, we discuss cases that are a little bit difficult and will scrub in and assist others with tough surgeries, etc. One of the practice partners and I are quite handy with ultrasound and have done further study and courses in this. Again, we are always happy to teach anyone who is wanting to learn. Also, if you do have a particular interest, the practice is really happy to support you with continuing education, etc.

When I first moved to the area 7 years ago, I didn't know anyone here. It was really easy to meet people, and I have made some lifelong friends. There are many things to do with numerous sporting clubs to join, lots of great restaurants around, and a large city and beautiful beaches less than one hour away. The team are excellent. We are very close-knit, and all get along really well. Everyone is very considerate and respectful. The nurses are excellent - very hands-on, helpful and very proficient. It is a really nice place to work!
