An opportunity has become available for an experienced mixed practice veterinarian in New Zealand's Southland Region.

Your new role looks like this:

- Living and working amongst beautiful, green, rolling hills.

- Becoming a part of a thriving community who are innovative, creative and passionate about helping each other to get the job done.

- Plenty of livestock, farms, pets and animals, both big and small that need care and attention.

This is where you come in, as an experienced and enthusiastic mixed practice vet, to join the team on a permanent, full-time basis.

This is a well-known practice whose clients trust them to look after all creatures, from dogs to dairy cows, unique New Zealand wildlife, and everything in between. The team of progressive, high-tech veterinarians is involved in some of the most critical support of New Zealand's important agricultural industry.

The salary offered is $110,000+ per annum, depending on experience. CPD is actively encouraged and the employer also makes a contribution to wellbeing activities (some people have bought ski passes with their portion, others join the gym or do a photography course!).

You will be working full-time hours with a sensible after-hours roster in place.

A relocation allowance is provided, veterinary registration paid and staff discounts applied for companion animals. A work vehicle, laptop and phone are provided, plus six weeks of accommodation provided on arrival (if relocating). Plus, there is plenty of 'food for good,' when on the go - fruit, nibbles, and snacks to keep you going!

In your new role, you will further develop as a veterinarian and gain experience by working on your own cases and having key clients. You will work with plenty of mentoring from other highly experienced veterinarians. Over time, developing in the management space and learning all about the behind-the-scenes parts of a veterinary business is also an option if that is of interest to you.

You will have a fantastic network of support staff comprised of veterinary technicians, vet nurses, retail and client support staff across all clinics. The team provides veterinary services to clients across the beautiful Southern region.

The hospital is equipped with in-house blood analysers, digital radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy. The team are experienced in a wide range of medical and surgical animal procedures, including orthopaedics. Data is the life blood of this business, to provide clients with the most comprehensive and innovative collection of programs and services that are only as good as the team, and this is where you come in.

The ideal candidate:

- You are the sort of person who loves variety in your work.

- You are as good with people as you are with your furry (and fluffy) patients.

- You want to be part of a safe and friendly community and work with other passionate veterinarians.

It will also help if you love the great outdoors! This area offers rivers, lakes, mountains and coastlines to keep you busy. For a taste of the metropolis, Queenstown and Dunedin are on your doorstep and quick international connections around New Zealand and the world.

12/3/2020 Comments from a locum vet: The practice was excellent. They were a very friendly team. There was excellent support. They provided excellent mentoring for medicine cases. There was an excellent nurse to vet ratio. It was a very well equipped clinic. I was on-call one in five weekends, and one weekday, the on-call work was not very taxing. The roster is really accommodating. There were usually 3 to 4 vets in the clinic at once, plus the large animal vets would come and go. There was a mix of new grads and experienced vets. CPD in NZ is fairly strict; all the vets were enrolled in various ongoing university courses. I would highly recommend this practice to new graduates, very supportive. There were a lot of things to do in the area I was in. I could easily drive to Queenstown and other amazing locations. I felt safe. I stayed in a house owned by one of the vets; he was only there for half of the time. It was only a two-minute drive to the clinic. There were a lot of excellent amenities close by. I would definitely return for further work with The practice.
