An exciting opportunity is available for an equine internal medicine specialist at a full-service, purpose-built equine hospital in Victoria.
This is a part-time role, working 4 days per fortnight, and accommodation is available.
You’ll be working at a highly regarded hospital that provides multidisciplinary specialist services alongside a comprehensive ambulatory service to their local clients.
The hospital offers a 24/7 intensive care service, providing care to over 100 critically ill foals each year. The caseload is predominantly neonatal intensive care, as well as many peri-partum broodmare and colic cases.
You will work as part of a team of highly experienced specialists in internal medicine, surgery, and anaesthesia, assisted by interns and experienced ambulatory/reproductive vets. Veterinarians are well supported by experienced nursing, stable, and laboratory staff.
You will be primarily responsible for the shared ICU and medicine cases in the hospital, communicating with referring veterinarians and clients.
This role would suit someone with an interest in neonatal care and the management of critical cases.
Advanced medical diagnostic equipment is available, including two ultrasound machines (including a new GE Vivid iQ), ECG telemetry, continuous monitoring (ECG, NIBP, etc.), gastroscope, video endoscopes, digital x-ray, nasal high-flow oxygen, ventilator, blood gas analyser, and ophthalmoscopes. The facility has 9 foal cages with oxygen and multiple fluid pumps, syringe drivers, 24-hour nursing, and foal assistance. There is also a new isolation facility (with 3 additional foal cages) and a full on-site laboratory with laboratory staff and 24-hour access.
Skills and experience required:
– Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Victoria.
– Registered Specialist in Equine Medicine. The employer is also open to hearing from registrars who have completed their residency training.
– An interest in neonatal care and management of critical care.
– Ability to prioritise and work effectively within a team.
The hospital is located in a pretty, peaceful Victorian town with a fantastic community spirit. This is a great chance to work in the heart of Victoria’s thoroughbred breeding region.
