A veterinarian with a passion for animal welfare is required to join a large not-for-profit organisation in Melbourne. The vet will deliver excellence in medical and surgical service to private clients and gain exposure to shelter medicine.
The clinic is fully computerised and well-equipped, including ultrasound, digital x-ray, iM3 dental and IDEXX diagnostics. The vet will be part of a passionate and driven team of vets and nursing staff, supported by the management team.
This is an opportunity to work with a large and varied caseload; no two days are the same. The practice sees a wide variety of cases with patients being mostly small animals along with some birds, wildlife and occasional large animals. Large animals skills would be advantageous; however, this is not essential.
The vet will provide routine services to shelter and privately owned animals. In addition, they will gain exposure to unique shelter animal work, will provide education and guidance to the public, and develop mentoring and leadership skills.
Applicants should have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as exceptional organisational skills. A desire to work with the community to improve animal welfare is also required. Previous shelter experience is not essential but would be viewed favourably.
Development of special interests is encouraged through continuing education. This includes study leave, annual CPD allowance and scholarships.
The vet will be based in Melbourne's outer South Eastern suburbs. The location offers easy access to the Mornington Peninsula beaches and wineries. Melbourne CBD is easily accessible.
